Anger Management

Anger is a normal, healthy emotion that can drive us forwards to get things done like achieving goals, removing a threat or solving a problem, but if anger gets out of control it can become a destructive force by frightening others or damaging relationships.

It can be a response to not having our needs met, a sense of injustice or it can be other feelings underneath like hurt or shame that are difficult to express, so we get angry instead. Some people come from families that encouraged them to express their anger, whereas other families found it unacceptable and did not allow it to be expressed at all. Anger turned inwards can lead to depression and ill health - in this case counselling can help lead to an understanding of why we might be feeling this way.

If you're finding that you're over-reacting or blowing up a lot then anger management counselling can help with strategies for understanding your problems and controlling your anger. You can then learn to express these intense, difficult feelings in a more considerate way.
